Q Ride RE Licence Course
Are you Eligible?
The Restricted RE Motorcycle Course is a mandatory Q Ride competency based assessment program. If you currently have your motorcycle learners licence (RE L) and are wanting to upgrade to your restricted licence (RE), this course is for you. To be eligible for this course you are required to have held your motorbike learners licence for 3 months.
As of the 29th of March 2021, all learner licence holders are required to do a hazard perception test (HPT) online prior to enrolling into the RE course. https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/licensing/getting/hazard/motorcycle-hazard-perception-test
What is the Re Course?
The course is a combination of off-road (on our track) and on-road activities. Final Training and Class RE assessments are conducted over a single day on our Purpose Built Q Ride Training facility (not a car park) in a relaxed and controlled manner with safety a priority. Course skills consist of:
Controlled Stop
Quick stop
Figure 8 & Slow Ride
Steering Technique
Slalom and obstacle avoidance
Road Ride
You will complete a simulated road ride followed by a 2 hour road ride where the aim is to demonstrate the road skills necessary and ensure you have the skills and knowledge to respond to potential hazards on the road.
Course Details
Duration of the course
The Q Ride RE licence course runs for 8 hours. You are required to complete the course over:
- 1 Day (8 hours)

- Use of a motorcycle
- Insurance
- Protective riding gear
You will need to bring
- Queensland Driver Licence
- Long jeans/pants suitable for riding a motorcycle
- Enclosed footwear
- Long socks to cover ankles
- Great attitude

RE course is $305
Recommendation
If you obtained your motorcycle Learners Licence prior to October 2016 and have not completed the pre learner course or have not ridden on the road, we recommend a private 2 hour one on one training session to prepare you for the RE course.
Completion of Course
Once you have successfully completed all the modules a Certificate of Competency will be submitted online by Cycle Right where you will need to log into your TMR online services account to upgrade your licence or you can take the certificate to a customer service centre where they will upgrade your licence.
You are required to hold your RE (restricted) licence for a minimum of 2 years before you are eligible to upgrade to your R (Unrestricted) licence
